Lightning Channel Management
Managing Lightning channels is like managing water pipes — you need flow in both directions. Too much capacity on one side means you can send but not receive, or vice versa.
Master the art of opening, managing, and closing Lightning channels efficiently.
Channel Lifecycle:
1. Opening: Fund a multisig address on-chain 2. Operating: Exchange signed transactions off-chain 3. Rebalancing: Manage liquidity between channels 4. Closing: Broadcast final state to blockchain
Types of Closes:
- •Cooperative: Both parties agree (cheapest)
- •Force close: Unilateral (more expensive)
- •Penalty close: Cheating attempt (lose all funds)
Good channel management means balancing inbound and outbound liquidity, choosing well-connected peers, and monitoring channel health regularly.
